Continuous Registration

Unless a leave of absence is granted, graduate students are required to maintain continuous enrollment each semester of the academic year until their degree is formally awarded by registering for course credits, research, or continuing enrollment. [Master’s students must enroll in course credits, Continuing Research (GRAD 900), or Continuing Enrollment (GRAD 800). C.A.G.S. students must enroll for course credits or Continuing Enrollment (GRAD 800).]

1. Graduate courses are numbered 800- or 900- level.
2. Up to 12 graduate credits can be earned in 700- level courses provided such courses are outside of the student’s major program. A petition for exception to academic policy (available online or at the UNH Center for Graduate & Professional Studies office) must be completed and approved prior to registration in order to receive graduate credit for a 700- level course. Such courses must be taken for a letter grade.
3. Graduate credit cannot be earned in courses below 700- level.
4. A graduate student may petition to take graduate independent study courses (800- or 900- level) as well as undergraduate courses on a credit/fail basis. Such a petition must be approved by the end of the ADD period for the term the course is taken. Courses at 700- level approved for graduate credit cannot be taken for credit/fail.

Please don't hesitate to contact our office with any questions regarding this policy.

Charges from the previous semester must be paid before students may register for the upcoming semester. Accounts with an outstanding balance of $1000 or more will be assessed a $100 fee.

My UNH
UNH offers students a variety of online services. Using Single Sign-On, students need just one username and password to access Blackboard (coursework, assignments), Webcat (for services such as registering for classes, paying bills, checking grades), UNH E-MAIL (your official UNH email address is used for all official communication with UNH), and more.

The key to using Single Sign-On is your username—the username comes before the @ in your UNH e-mail address. Your Blackboard password is the same as your UNH E-mail password. For further information on acquiring your username and setting your password, please visit the following page: www.gradschool.unh.edu/home/myunh_instructions.html.

Financial Aid for graduate students is available through the federal government in the form of Stafford Loans.  To apply, go to: www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Students interested in participating in the AMS Tuition Payment Plan may find information at: www.tuitionpay.com or at the Business Office in the Student Services Suite on the second floor of University Center or by calling 641-4137.

Student ID cards are obtained at the security desk on the first floor.  After registering for a class, bring your copy of the registration form to the security desk as proof of being a graduate student and have your picture taken.  This ID gives you access to the UNH and UNHM libraries, surrounding libraries and the computer lab.

Parking permits are required in order to park at UNHM.  Be aware that cars without permits and cars illegally parked will be ticketed and/or towed by the City of Manchester.  Parking permits must be renewed each semester: August or September for the fall semester, January for the spring semester and May for the summer sessions.  Once you have paid for your class please stop by the security desk on the first floor to pick up your permit.  (Remember to bring your current car registration with you.)

UNH has a HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENT as a condition of enrollment for all full-time (9 or more credits per traditional semester) degree students for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Students will have the option of waiving the requirement by presenting proof of adequate insurance through another plan.  Students who want to opt out of the plan are encouraged to complete the enrollment/waiver form.  Full information including the enrollment/waiver form can be located at www.unh.edu/health-services/shbp/.  Please call 1-888-335-9400 with questions.

UNH Manchester makes weather related closing decisions independent of the Durham campus.  Please call the Storm Information Line at 641-4100 for the latest information.  UNH Alert is an alert system that allows the University of New Hampshire to contact you during an emergency by sending text messages to your:  E-mail (school, personal, other); Cell phone; Pager; BlackBerry/Treo. When an emergency occurs, authorized senders will instantly notify you using UNH Alert. UNH Alert is a free service; however your wireless carrier may charge you a fee to receive messages on your wireless device.  For more information visit: alert.unh.edu.
