MBA Students Complete BAE Leadership Program

"I chose the Manchester campus for the networking opportunities that a program more geographically centered in the state could offer. Now I’m getting a world-class MBA education to apply to my daily job and almost more importantly, a new network of working professionals with a vast mix of backgrounds to lean on."

Tim Granfield, MBA Student

UNH Center for Graduate & Professional Studies MBA students [pictured left to right] Alan Lemarier, Jessica Santos, and Timothy Granfield recently completed the Financial Leadership Development Program (FLDP) offered through BAE Systems, a global defense contractor with four main facilities in Southern NH and an estimated $606 million economic impact in New Hampshire in 2008.

The FLDP Program has evolved since its inception in 1971, though it maintains its original premise - to cultivate professionals within the BAE Finance Organization who are action oriented, will lead effective change, and promote innovation. The Program consists of three, one-year rotations designed to provide a broad background in finance and business operations disciplines while also granting participants the unique “blended learning” opportunity of completing master’s program as well as in-house training modules.

“I’ve loved the opportunity to participate in the FLDP,” said Santos. “The rotational job experience has opened my eyes to the many possibilities of careers within the realm of Finance.  Combining this experience with the blended learning environment provided many opportunities to apply theories that we learned in the classroom to situations we were experiencing at work.”

The UNH Center for Graduate & Professional Studies has been offering UNH graduate programs in the Millyard since July of 2001. The programs, designed for working professionals, provide a number of opportunities for interdisciplinary study in the areas of education, human services, public health, business, and government.

“I chose the UNH MBA program because of its convenient location and reputation,” said Santos, of Hudson, NH. “The Whittemore MBA program at the Manchester location is unique to other MBA programs because it provides unparalleled opportunities to network with other working professionals in different content areas.”

“I grew up in Manchester and it’s amazing to see the growth in the amount of business specifically in the downtown area,” said Lemarier.  “I think that UNH’s part time MBA program in Manchester is taking full advantage of that opportunity.” Lemarier lives in Billerica, MA with his wife Sarah and their new lab puppy Sadie.

Granfield had considered the Durham program because of its location to his home, but chose the Manchester program after visiting the location. “I live close to the Durham campus and was leaning towards attending the MBA program on the main campus. Once I discovered that the programs are one-and-the-same, I chose the Manchester campus for the networking opportunities that a program more geographically centered in the state could offer,” said Granfield.  “Now I’m getting a world-class MBA education to apply to my daily job and almost more importantly, a new network of working professionals with a vast mix of backgrounds to lean on.” Granfield lives with his wife Brittany and their labradoodle Remi in Dover, NH.
